Join the CEDP for two days of lively discussion (check out the full program). Featuring the voices of exonerated death row prisoners, family members and activists. We will have sessions on challenges facing our movement today and break-out sessions to develop our organizing skills. Come to share, come to learn, come to be a part of the fight to end the death penalty!

Registration for the weekend is $50. Special family member, former prisoner, and student rate is $25. Registration is no longer available online. Registration will be available on site.

FEATURED SPEAKERS

Howard Zinn on the “The Power of the People”

Howard Zinn, historian, author and activist, will speak on the power of ordinary people in changing the course of history. He is the author of A People's History of the United States and will be doing a book signing following his speech.

Death row prisoners and family members

Ronald Kitchen – Recently exonerated death row prisoner from Illinois.
Darby Tillis – Exonerated death row prisoner from Illinois.
Sandra Reed – Mother of Texas death row prisoner Rodney Reed.
Jeannine Scott – Wife of newly freed Texas prisoner Michael Scott.
Marvin Reeves – Recently freed from Illinois prison after 21 years.
Lawrence Hayes – Former Black Panther and former New York death row prisoner.

ACCOMMODATIONS, CONVENTION LOCATION AND OTHER LOGISTICS

The Ramada Lakeshore at 4900 S. Lake Shore Drive has a limited block of hotel rooms set aside under “Campaign to End the Death Penalty” at the group rate of $89 for a double room. Reservations will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. To ensure your space, call the Ramada Lakeshore at 773-288-5800. If you run into any problems, the contact person is Marilyn. The hotel is at about a mile and a half from convention. The deadline to receive the discount is October 15.

There are also rooms at the International House (I-House) at 1414 E. 59th Street, 773-753-2270. The guest-style room has a queen-sized bed and television with linen and towels provided. Nightly rates for this room are $69. Dorm-style rooms have a single bed, with linen and towels provided. Rates are $59 per night. Both have common bathroom facilities. Please contact the front desk staff from 7 am-11 pm to make any reservation. I-House is just a couple of blocks from the convention site.

Limited travel scholarships are available for family members and former prisoners. Help bring a family member of former prisoner to convention by donating to the Costella Cannon Fund.

All convention sessions will be held at the University of Chicago campus on Chicago's South Side. On Saturday, November 7, sessions will be in Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 E. 59th Street at Woodlawn. On Sunday, sessions will be in Stuart Hall 101.
