Juneau Jail is a medium security detention center for adult inmates that is locally operated by the Juneau City Police Department. This facility serves the city of Juneau and the surrounding area.
The Juneau Jail houses inmates that have been convicted of crimes and serving a sentence that is 12 months or less as well as those who are still awaiting trial. Inmates that are sentenced for more than 12 months are transferred to a federal or state prison.
A majority of the time inmates at Juneau Jail are required to stay in their individual cells that are divided up between two floors. There is also a large common area with tables and chairs that the inmates are allowed to use at times.

Send a Mail/Package
In order to keep everyone safe and secure the Juneau Jail staff inspects all incoming and outgoing mail. Please refrain from sending any contraband in the mail.
Inmates at Juneau Jail are allowed to receive 4"x 6 " plain white postcards in the mail that are metered, unstamped with a pencil or blue or black ink only.
Keep in mind that all mail is opened under the supervision of a jail staff member.
