Chicago Police Jail is a medium security detention center for adult inmates that is locally operated by the Chicago City Police Department. This facility serves the city of Chicago and the surrounding area.
The Chicago Police Jail houses inmates that have been convicted of crimes and serving a sentence that is 12 months or less as well as those who are still awaiting trial. Inmates that are sentenced for more than 12 months are transferred to a federal or state prison.
