The South Iowa Juvenile Detention is a medium-security detention center located in Chariton, Iowa. Operated locally by the County Sheriff's Office, this jail holds inmates who are awaiting trial or sentencing. The County Sheriff's Department has the largest number of law enforcement officers in the county and is the largest facility in Iowa. The current Sheriff was sworn in as Sheriff in September 2009.
