On July 1, 2009, the original Butler County Jail closed its doors for the last time. This original Butler County Jail was in use for over 100 years. Throughout those 100 years, the Butler County Jail was in constant operation.
It took nearly 8 months for the Newton County to officially pass a bond issue that would allow the Butler County the money and design elements to officially start constructing a bigger and better Butler County Jail.
The bigger and better Butler County Jail was fully done and operational in August 2014.
