Opened since 1984, Essex County Correctional Facility is a medium-security detention center located in Middleton, Massachusetts. This facility was originally designed to house a total of 1000 inmates, but by 2004, the Essex County Correctional Facility experienced over a 240% increase in the average daily population for the facility and needed to expand.
Currently, 40 Corrections Deputies, 5 Corrections Sergeants, and 1 Lieutenant are responsible for providing safe and secure housing for inmates being held in the custody of the Essex County Correctional Facility.
Essex County Correctional Facility offers a Jail Alternatives Program which offers alternative programs to qualifying inmates. Such alternatives include Work Release, Community Service, and Electronic Home Monitoring.

Send a Mail/Package
Inmates at Essex County Correctional Facility may receive only metered, unstamped, plain white postcards no larger than 4" x 6" as mail. Writing must be in pencil or blue or black ink. Any other mail will be returned to the sender.
If no return address is available, unauthorized mail will be stored in the inmate's locker until the inmate's release.

Sending Money

Visitation Rules
Visitation occurs via video from the visitor’s home/device or in the lobby of the Essex County Community Justice Center which is located at 20 Manning Avenue, Middleton, MA, 01949-2807. Inmates are usually allowed one 40-minute visits per week. Each inmate may have two visitors at a time.
