Opened since 1984, Monroe County Main Jail is a medium-security detention center located in Monroe, Michigan. This facility was originally designed to house a total of 400 inmates, but by 2004, the Monroe County Main Jail experienced over a 240% increase in the average daily population for the facility and needed to expand.
Currently, 40 Corrections Deputies, 5 Corrections Sergeants, and 1 Lieutenant are responsible for providing safe and secure housing for inmates being held in the custody of the Monroe County Main Jail.
Monroe County Main Jail offers a Jail Alternatives Program which offers alternative programs to qualifying inmates. Such alternatives include Work Release, Community Service, and Electronic Home Monitoring.

Send a Mail/Package
Inmates at Monroe County Main Jail may receive only metered, unstamped, plain white postcards no larger than 4" x 6" as mail. Writing must be in pencil or blue or black ink. Any other mail will be returned to the sender.
If no return address is available, unauthorized mail will be stored in the inmate's locker until the inmate's release.

Sending Money
The Monroe County Main Jail accepts money for inmates 24 hours a day via the kiosk in the jail lobby. The kiosk accepts cash and credit/debit cards. Money orders will be accepted through the mail. Visitation Rules
Visitation occurs via video from the visitor’s home/device or in the lobby of the Monroe County Community Justice Center which is located at 100 East Second Street, Monroe, MI, 48161. Inmates are usually allowed one 40-minute visits per week. Each inmate may have two visitors at a time.
