Sending Money

The Penitentiary of New Mexico allows family and friends to send money to inmates in their facilities by one of four different ways.

The most popular way that friends and family members send inmates funds is using JPay. You can use JPay over the phone, online, or in person. It’s the fastest and easiest way to send inmates money while they are in the Penitentiary of New Mexico.

You can also take advantage of using Western Union and GTL as well.

Phone Calls

When an inmate is kept in the Penitentiary of New Mexico, they are permitted to make phone calls home. The Penitentiary of New Mexico contracts with GTL for their phone service.

You can put money directly on their phone account through GTL if you would like. The inmate is responsible to have funds on their account to be able to call home.

All calls will be limited to 15 minutes per person for all inmates to have the chance to contact their loved ones.

Visitation Rules

If you would like to visit an inmate here at the Penitentiary of New Mexico, you will need to first and foremost fill out the visitor's application. You will then need to wait for the visitor application to be approved before you can schedule your visitation appointment.

To schedule a visitor appointment, you will need to contact the following number 505-827-8205 during Monday through Wednesday between the hours of 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Visitation will be held on Thursdays between the following time frames:

  • 8:15 am to 9:45 am

  • 10:30 am to 12 pm

  • 1 pm to 2:30 pm

If the inmate you are looking for is currently housed in the management control unit in the Penitentiary of New Mexico, they will have to have been in the facility for more than a month with no infractions to receive two contact visits every calendar month.

If the inmate you are looking for is currently housed in the Close Custody Transition Unit in the Penitentiary of New Mexico, they will have to have no infractions to receive four contact visits every calendar month.

All visits for inmates can last up to 90 minutes.
