The Wheeler County Jail is a medium-security detention center located in Fossil, Oregon. Operated locally by the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office, this jail holds inmates who are awaiting trial or sentencing. The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Department has the largest number of law enforcement officers in the county and is the largest facility in Oregon. The current Sheriff was sworn in as Sheriff in September 2009.
Inmates at Wheeler County Jail have the opportunity to participate in programs, including education, counseling, substance abuse, and religious services. They are given three meals a day and are allowed to purchase snacks from the commissary. They are given an hour of recreational time each day where they are encouraged to go outside.

Visitation Rules
Wheeler County Jail requires all visitors to fill out an application prior to visitation. If you want to visit an inmate at Wheeler County Jail, carefully fill out the application. The Wheeler County Jail reserves the right to deny any person the right to enter the jail it chooses and for any reason.
Jail visits are conducted in person behind plexiglass or on a televised screen from another location. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and guardians must provide proof of their guardianship. Inmates may have two visitors during each visit.
