About Pennsylvania Department of Corrections

The Pennsylvania Department of Correction is the largest law enforcement agency within the state. The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is responsible for the operation of 24 correctional facilities, one motivational boot camp, 14 community based correctional centers, alongside 50 contracted facilities, and a training academy.

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections employs over 15,000 correctional, probation, and parole officers and is responsible for around 50,000 offenders daily.

Everyone that works for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections will have to go through the training academy. The training academy is put in place to ensure that everyone working with the offenders know the proper protocol on how to handle certain situations that can protect themselves, the offender, and the communities they serve.

The Pennsylvania Department of Correction is one big team working together daily to improve the public safety of their communities. The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is accredited by the American Correctional Association.
