Opened since 1984, Schuylkill County Jail is a medium-security detention center located in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. This facility was originally designed to house a total of 277 inmates, but by 2004, the Schuylkill County Jail experienced over a 240% increase in the average daily population for the facility and needed to expand.
Currently, 40 Corrections Deputies, 5 Corrections Sergeants, and 1 Lieutenant are responsible for providing safe and secure housing for inmates being held in the custody of the Schuylkill County Jail.
Schuylkill County Jail offers a Jail Alternatives Program which offers alternative programs to qualifying inmates. Such alternatives include Work Release, Community Service, and Electronic Home Monitoring.

Send a Mail/Package
Inmates at Schuylkill County Jail may receive only metered, unstamped, plain white postcards no larger than 4" x 6" as mail. Writing must be in pencil or blue or black ink. Any other mail will be returned to the sender.
If no return address is available, unauthorized mail will be stored in the inmate's locker until the inmate's release.

Sending Money
The Schuylkill County Jail accepts money for inmates 24 hours a day via the kiosk in the jail lobby. The kiosk accepts cash and credit/debit cards. Money orders will be accepted through the mail. All money orders must be made out to "Schuylkill County Jail". Money can also be sent to the inmate’s account online using JPay services.
The Schuylkill County Jail does not accept personal checks for inmates.

Visitation Rules
Visitation occurs via video from the visitor’s home/device or in the lobby of the Schuylkill County Prison which is located at 230 Sanderson St, Pottsville, PA, 17901. Inmates are usually allowed one 40-minute visits per week. Each inmate may have two visitors at a time.
ONSITE video visitation:
- Once per week per inmate
- You can schedule an appointment online or at the Schuylkill County Jail lobby
- Minors (under 18 years of age) must be supervised by an approved adult during the entire duration of the visit.
- Anyone appearing to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol will not be allowed to visit
- All visitors must wear appropriate clothing including shoes and shirts.
- Jail staff may refuse a visit due to inappropriate dress or conduct while visiting
To be eligible for an OFFSITE video visitation you must:
- Sign up for a video visitation account
- Have internet access
- Have a personal computer or device that includes speakers, microphone, and a webcam
Offsite visitors must provide their own equipment and the necessary internet connections to participate in video visiting.
Visitation must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance, but no more than 14 days in advance.
